12-Week Progression from White to Green

January 8, 2025

Ready to level up your pickleball game? Our 12-week progression program takes you from beginner to competitive play with a step-by-step approach.

Beginner Series (White Band): 4 Weeks

Goal: Introduce players to the basics of pickleball and build comfort with the game.

Focus areas:

  • Learn the fundamental skills: proper grip, paddle positioning, and basic shot mechanics (dinks, serves, and returns).
  • Understand court layout, scoring, and basic rules of play.
  • Build consistency in getting the ball over the net during basic rallies.
  • Develop comfort with game flow and playing points.

Outcome: Players gain foundational skills and confidence, preparing them for Foundations 102.

Foundations 102 (Yellow Band): 4 Weeks

Goal: Transition players from learning the basics to building muscle memory and consistent play.

Focus areas:

  • Reinforce Muscle Memory: Players lock in shot mechanics through repetition and focused drills (serves, returns, drops, and volleys).
  • Consistency and Control: Developing the ability to execute repeatable, high-percentage shots with reliable placement.
  • Game Preparation: Introduction to controlled, game-like drills that begin to combine shot selection with movement and positioning.
  • Free Mental Bandwidth: By solidifying muscle memory, players free their focus to start recognizing opportunities on the court and making strategic decisions.

Outcome: Players develop shot confidence and prepare for intentional strategy in Advance Your Band.

Advance Your Band (Yellow to Green): 4 Weeks

Goal: Help players implement strategic decision-making and intentional shot selection.

Focus areas:

  • Strategic Play: Players learn to hit specific shots with purpose, such as using drops to set up net play, dinks to control pace, or drives to apply pressure.
  • Court Awareness: Recognizing opportunities for offense and defense and learning when to attack versus reset.
  • Pattern Play Integration: Executing strategic patterns under game-like conditions (e.g., third-shot drop, transition zones, and stacking).
  • Doubles Communication: Partner movement, shot selection coordination, and strategy to build stronger team play.

Outcome: Players graduate to Green Band, capable of executing strategy during competitive play.
