We caught up with Shuai Zhang, the top seed in the doubles category and a Grand Slam doubles champion, at the Fifth Third Charleston WTA 125 tournament. Renowned for her skills on the court and her warm personality off it, Zhang shared why Charleston holds a special place in her heart.
It’s clear that the camaraderie between players plays a significant role in shaping their tournament experiences.
“Oh, you know why I love it here,” she said. “The first reason is because Sam Stosur, my former doubles partner and my best friend, she loves it here.”
She went on to express her admiration for the city itself.
“When I’m in the city, I feel like I’m in Europe,” she said. “You know, there’s so much history and it’s so beautiful.”
With Charleston’s blend of Southern hospitality, historical significance and scenic beauty, it’s no wonder that players like Zhang and Stosur are drawn to the Holy City.
