LTP Academy is taking its tennis lessons on the road and launching a new partnership with Meeting Street Academy.
LTP coaches and students are offering after-school instruction to elementary-aged children once per week at the downtown campus. The goal is to introduce more kids to this wonderful lifelong sport and provide an opportunity to become as good as they want to be.
“Tennis isn’t just a sport; it’s a pathway to a healthier, more enriched life,” said Patrick Hieber, general manager of LTP Academy. “We’re excited to share our love of tennis with these scholars to help them grow academically and personally.”
Tennis has numerous benefits, including boosting physical wellbeing, enhancing cognitive development and fostering social connections. The idea for this partnership has been percolating for years, but COVID stopped it from coming to fruition.
“We view LTP as a world-class organization for young athletes, and we hope that this partnership will produce a pipeline of student-athletes from Meeting Street Academy to LTP to college and beyond,” said Chris Azevedo, executive director of the downtown school. “To say that we are excited about the potential of this partnership for our scholars would be an understatement.”
LTP Scholars and LTP Academy senior Jake Smith volunteers with a group of first graders each week, tossing them balls and teaching them to hold a racket.
“LTP has given me such good opportunities, so it feels good to be able to give back,” he said.
